Whence Came a Prince

And Jacob, how they lingering love to dwell
On portions of thy strangely-varied tale,
Thy patient toil, thy faith that did excel,
Thy strength with th’ angel wrestling to prevail,
Whence came, a prince with God, thy new name Israel.

John Struthers

Here's what readers are saying about

"I read all three within a month...and I feel lost now I've finished them! You portrayed all the characters with so much life and vibrancy, it's hard to believe they are works of fiction. I know a fair amount about my country's history and I thought the way you portrayed Scotland in the 18th century was wonderful. It was lovely also how you weaved so many scriptures and spirtual truths seamlessly into the story. God has gifted you with an exceptional talent which you clearly use for His glory. I'm looking forward to Grace in Thine Eyes."
   Lisa via e-mail from Scotland

"With Whence Came a Prince, you have saved the best for last. I laughed, cried, and was humbled that the characters who have become like family--Jamie, Rose, Leana, even the servants--trusted in the Lord so completely and accepted where He led them in His perfect timing. Once again the Scottish traditions and language engaged the heart and mind for this reader descended from the Scots. These Genesis stories have come alive."
   Zanese from Georgia

"Whence Came a Prince is the first of your novels that I have read. You have a wonderful gift, I felt like I was right there living with the characters. I hope one day I can visit the land of my ancestors, but for now I can see it through your eyes."
   Tracy via email

"You've spoiled me for any other Christian fiction writer. I'm certain these books will become classics. I adored every one. They had everything I look for in a good book--but these were more than good, they were amazing, wonderful, beautifully written books. I'm sad they are over, but I will enjoy reading them many times again!"
   Alice Ann via email

"I loved Prince! I read it in three days, it was very hard for me to put down as I had to know what was going to happen next to Leana, Rose and Jamie. I actually shared the tears, laughter, and pain that they all went through. You have a wonderful way of sharing the love of Christ with others in your writing. I cannot wait to read about Davina!"

Marci from Kentucky

"Once again, you have managed to write an absolutely fabulous novel which tops all other books I have ever read. Unbelievable! I was sad to bid all those pages goodbye, pages which had brought tears, laughter, and joy to my heart. Thank you for writing books which uphold honesty and purity, yet face reality and describe the consequences of sin. I am gleefully anticipating the arrival of Grace in Thine Eyes."
   Laura Beth from Kentucky

"Normally I prefer contemporary fiction, but your skilled writing draws me in and makes it hard for me to read just 'one more chapter' before I turn off the light. What I love the most is your character development. I'm glad you're continuing with Davina's story. Keep 'em coming!"
     Rebecca from Washington

"Whence came a Prince is a great conclusion. I laughed and I cried, but most of all I learned. I feel like I have a new outlook on how God has blessed my life and continues to do. I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation of your next book about Davina."
   Esther via e-mail

"Whence Came a Prince was just wonderful. I must have called our local Christian bookstore 4 times to make sure I didn't miss it! I just loved how you tied everything together. Thank you for using your God given talents in this way!"
   Jenny from Minnesota

"I have one word...WOW! I was totally blown away by this whole series. The story of Jacob, Leah, and Rachel has always been one of my favorite stories in the Bible. Never has anyone captivated them the way you have. You wrapped it up so beautifully. It was so interesting to see how you included every single detail of the Bible into this story. I think it touched me so much and so deeply because I know this isn't just a story. This is our history."
   Jennifer via e-mail

"I just finished your 3 novels and I am sooo totally impressed with your writing! I love historical romance but have had some difficulty finding authors I really enjoy that can capture me into the story. YOU DID! The Thoenes and Francine Rivers are already on my favorites short list. Now you are too! I can't wait for Davina's story."
   Cindy via e-mail

"I was so engrossed in your novels about Scotland!! Great writing....you captured my emotion. My housework was at a standstill until I finished Prince. To quote a Scottish phrase, 'I am shattered.' Overwhelmed would be a good word this side of the 'pond.' Well done, well done indeed. Your writing touched my heart in many chapters, but none so much as in the ones toward the finish. You truly have a gift."

P. J. from Iowa

"I canna tell you how much I have enjoyed your series! Most of the time I felt like my heart was in my throat. Fighting hard the urge to skip ahead! Leana was my favorite of the three characters. She was a true heroine simply because she knew where her help came from. I love your writing. You are the blissin, Liz!"
   Amy from Texas

"Your stories have touched my heart beyond words! I was gripped from page one with an urgency to read this series. I now have such a desire to visit this lovely country and relive these stories! I miss the characters and can't wait for Davina's story next spring."
   Heidi from Minnesota

"I found it VERY difficult to put these books down. I have come to love these characters and was moved to tears. You are an amazing writer. You've taken these three real biblical characters and made them fictional, yet so human as to be believable. Your research is quite amazing too!"
Liz from Kingdom of Fife, Scotland

"Fabulous! I lost sleep reading every one of these books. I am a voracious reader and found the depth of your characters, the authenticity of language, Scripture, and historical correctness to be refreshing. It is hard to wait for the next one, but thank you for taking the time to make it right!"
   Gladys from Oklahoma

"I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed your three books about Leana, Rose, and Jamie. I found myself thinking about the characters during the day and not being able to wait until I could steal a few minutes to read the next chapter. It is even hard for me to move on to a new book...I have to savor these for a while. You are a gifted storyteller. I am already looking forward to reading Davina's story next spring."
   Sandy via e-mail

"You did it again! Prince was well worth the wait. Once again, the characters came to life. Oh, to be a Leana, full of grace and truth. She was my favorite. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Grace in Thine Eyes. I know I will fall in love with Davina, too. May God bless you...and us...with many more tales to be told."
   Vicki from California

"I was absolutely enthralled in the story and your wonderful writing. I cried and laughed along with the characters. I'm an avid reader of historical Scottish romances...thank you for these wonderful and inspiring books. I can't wait for Grace in Thine Eyes."
   Sherre from Indiana

"I don't think I have enjoyed books more than these...they really spoke to my heart. I just loaned Thorn in My Heart to my best friend and told her that I wish I was where she was, just beginning the series! They are wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I truly loved these books and the impact they made upon me."
   Susan from Minnesota

"I finished Whence Came a Prince late last night. I think my family will be glad I can re-engage because once I'm reading a fiction book I get distracted from most everything else! I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books, but this one was the best by far! I feel like I also have some new insight into the characters of Jacob, Rachel, and Leah."
   Kelly from Oklahoma

"I have just devoured your beautiful Whence Came a Prince. You are a truly amazing author and spin such incredible tales! I am at a loss to find words to tell you how much I enjoy your books! Your intensive research and meticulous details of the traditions and folkways of 1790 Scottish life put a reader right into the heart of your story. I saw the countryside, forded the streams, felt the harshness of some of the traditions, tasted every morsel of food, heard each bagpipe note...fully aware of sense and place. I feel I have lived in the skin of each character as you introduced each in such detail. Amazing work! Thank you for the Prince's ending! I had tears streaming down my face. Your beautiful books are page turners--poignant stories soundly based on Scripture. I can hardly wait for Davina to appear in Grace in Thine Eyes..."
   Dianne from Illinois

"What a phenomenal story you have written! I know, God wrote it first, but you really brought the story to life and added so much detail and color. I found myself so emotionally involved in the lives of Jamie, Leana, and Rose, wishing I could continue on their journey with them. That is why I am so very excited about your next book. This trilogy has been some of the best fiction I have read in a long time. I am often disappointed with the 'fluffliness' of much Christian fiction, and your novels are anything but. Well done!"
   Missy from Oklahoma

"You've taken me back across the ocean to the glorious Scottish countryside...across time to the days of Leana, Jamie, Rose, and Ian...across spaces in my heart that need hoeing. Ouch. Your characters are so real, so complete. Thank you for this marvelous trio of books that transports to far away places yet burrows deep into me, the reader."
   Mary Kay from California

"I loved all three of the books in this series, but this last one especially! I was also thrilled to see my own name in print! In my lifetime I have only heard of two other Davinas. I have enjoyed all your books that I've read so far...this series, Bookends, Bad Girls of the Bible and Really Bad Girls of the Bible. Your testimony was so helpful to me. Keep up the good work and encouragement!"
   Davina from Missouri

"I finished Prince...WOWIE! As a reader, I disappeared into your words, lost to all else but The Story. Such depth of emotions, staying true to characters, satisfying endings. I am awed."
   Charlene from Illinois

"What a fabulous ending to a great story! I am so going to miss Leana, Rose, and Jamie. I don't think I've ever read a 500+ page book so fast! And cried like a baby, too. I absolutely love your writing!"
   Cindy from South Carolina

"Now that the journey is over, I will miss Rose, Jamie, and Leana so much. It was a tremendous ending...my heart was torn apart and the tears flowed. Leana's selfless love was such a testimony, though I must confess can relate better to dear Rose. I loved them both and totally fell in love with Jamie as well. A man of courage and integrity. Thank you so much for bringing these wonderful characters to life in this unforgettable series located in beautiful, historical Scotland! I am looking forward to Grace in Thine Eyes."
   Wanda via e-mail

"I have to admit that I was 'pulling for' Leana throughout the entire series. I could feel that dull ache in her heart as she endured so much hardship. I appreciate the painstaking work you put into all the books, especially the language and history behind the story. I anxiously await the next one!"
   Julie from Kentucky

"I finished Prince and WOW! The whole series was so great that I just can NOT wait until Grace in Thine Eyes comes out! Thank ye fer being sic a' blissin tae us readers!"
   Jennifer from North Carolina

"I absolutely love these books! Have just finished reading Whence Came a Prince and the tears have just dried on my cheeks. NO housework done for two days as I have been very busy in Scotland! Brilliant writing...these characters live in my heart and imagination. Well done."
   Kerry-Lee from Queensland, Australia

"Prince was delightful. The characters are beautifully done, found solidarity in their peculiar predicament, and Leana is a role model of love. Her thoughts are always on others! Puts me to shame. Thanks for bringing me to Galloway, if only in my mind's eye. A truly inspired story."
   Natalie from California

"I am sure better words will eventually come to describe the way Whence Came a Prince left me feeling. I am struck by the awed silence that followed my reading. My dear husband and I had a marvelous experience sharing in the lives of Jamie, Leana and Rose as they struggled, suffered, loved, lost and found again--exactly as God would have had them do. We were so engrossed in what was taking place in the book that we began discussing the characters as if they were personal friends. Thank you for so thoroughly researching your topic and location that the reader can't help but feel as if he/she is there drinking in the mist and the heather. Thank you most of all for bringing new life to a passage of Scripture that I will never see the same again."
   Pam from Georgia

"I just finished Prince... what can I say! WOW! All three were fabulous to say the least! I loved the history and the characters, actually everything about them. I can't wait for the next series..."
   Carolee from Pennsylvania

"I just had to let you know how much I enjoyed your Jamie, Leana, and Rose series! To put it plainly, these are the very best fiction books I have ever read! I am waiting Grace in Thine Eyes with bated breath..."
   Kim via e-mail

"I could hardly wait to read Whence Came a Prince. Now, I am a bit sad...the story has ended. But, it ended so well, so right. Jamie is all of us, torn between love for the temporal--Rose--and the eternal--Leana. The eternal "One" is unconditional love...merciful...healing. As Jamie said, "far more than I deserve." It was a human story, and yet God's story...the story of forgiveness and new birth."
   Lin from Wisconsin

"Even though the book was long I would have gladly read more about their lives. I feel like Rose was the first love, the not-so-deep love that we all experience in our lives and Leana was the true, abiding, faithful-till-death love for Jamie. I will miss them all. Thanks for a great series! One which will haunt me for many a day!"
   Deb from Pennsylvania

"I had to write and tell you how much I enjoyed the books and what a JOY they were to read! So very well written and researched! It is so hard to find that combination! Oh, and a great Christian story as well! The books really spoke to my heart and helped me grow spiritually...what a awesome way of bringing the story of Leah and Rachel to life!"
   Laura from Indiana

"I just finished Whence Came A Prince. What a magnificent book! As I read I could actually see things as if I were there when each event happened! A wonderful book and a wonderful end to the trilogy. I felt totally satisfied when it ended."
   Heather via e-mail"

I have to agree with some of your other fans--I think Whence Came a Prince was your finest novel thus far. It was so moving. I look forward to Grace in Thine Eyes. What a wonderful storyteller you are!"
   Betty via e-mail

"What a masterpiece! I’m typically not a fiction reader, as I’m a 'Martha' type woman. I usually only allow myself to read fiction during vacations and breaks; however; I couldn’t wait for this book to come out and have completely devoured it in the last week at every opportune and inopportune moment. I even found myself reading the Genesis account during church on Sunday. I am more and more impressed with your writings and ALL you put into your works."
   Ellen from Texas

"I would like to express how much I loved your book, Whence Came a Prince. I found myself so wrapped up in the lives of Leana, Rose, and Jamie that I could not seem to read fast enough. I could hardly put the book down before my thoughts would return to the story, and I would have to pick it up to read a few more chapters. This is indeed a job well done..."
   Brian from California

"How I loved these books and am eagerly awaiting the next one. Thanks for writing such wonderful novels. My heart is thirsty and the spirit from these books is slowly healing it and restoring my faith."
   Betty from Kansas

"Oh, I'm so sad that I read the book too fast. I knew I should take my time and keep Jamie and Leana with me longer, but I couldn't help myself. I absolutely fell in love with Leana. I don't think I've ever gotten more involved with characters."
   Jan from Illinois

"A delightfully rich read. Of course, no matter what the book title says, this one, like the others, is Leana's. Not that Rose doesn't grow and change. She does. So does Jamie. Still, Leana is the key, the lynchpin that holds everything together. From being somewhat of a victim she's grown into the one who shapes the future for others. Strength and weakness. Meekness and boldness. She blends all of those things and more. A thoroughly satisfactory read."
   Susan from Mississippi

"Finished Prince last night. The very best of all. Our Jamie did mature...the 'prodigal' returned, confessing his sins and seeking forgiveness. Dear, dear Leana, keeping the faith, trusting God. The picture of Scotland you paint with your words makes me long to see that beautiful country with all its history. I can't wait for Grace in Thine Eyes."
   Gloria from Kentucky

"Fabulous! I've long been fascinated with the Bible story of Jacob, and have had great sympathy for Leah, of the 'weak eyes.' I was fascinated to see how you tucked in many details of Jacob's story, adapting them to Scottish times, but keeping them true to the biblical account. I couldn't put any title of this Scottish trilogy down once I started to read!"
   Julia from Oregon

"You're sense of writing style had me completely entranced and I couldn't stop reading. I love your description of the characters and small villages in Scotland. I could picture everything...from the meals being served, to Leana's kneeling in her garden, to sitting in the kirk. Your books have touched my heart..."
   Valerie via e-mail

"Loved it! A superb conclusion. I couldn't put it down for long and just had to keep on reading. There were a few tears in the last part of the book. You have painted a wonderful picture both with the story and the setting. I love Scotland and the journey through the whole area was wonderful. This trilogy is definitely a keeper..."
   Claire from Queensland, Australia

"I began the series in January of this year, which was a blessing because I did not have long to wait for the third book to arrive! Not a day goes by that I don't think about Leana's devotion to God and her family, or the heart-wrenching pain she endured, or steadfastness of her love. Of course, Jamie and Rose are characters who are just as unforgettable, and have just as much to teach us! I made every effort to draw out finishing Prince, because every time I saw how little I had left of the book, my heart ached to know that my time with your wonderful characters was drawing to a close. As I finished the final page, I was so happy, and yet my heart was almost broken to know it was all over! I have never had any other book effect me so deeply! Your books have made me look at the classic Bible story in ways I had never imagined, and even more importantly, I believe they have helped me to become a better wife, by following Leana's gracie example."
   Kristina via e-mail

"The story of Jacob, Leah and Rachel has always been one of my favorites and you truly made it come alive for me. I got Whence Came a Prince right after it came out and honestly I started in the middle and read to the end because I just HAD to know what would come of my beloved Leana! I did go back and read all of Prince again. And I'll admit I read the last few chapters quite a few times. :) I came to truly love the characters and lived their stories with them. It was also a challenging and inspiring book. I long to be a gracie woman like Leana. I will continue to pray for you and your lovely ministry of storytelling. Thank you thank you thank you for this wonderful series."
   Stacey via e-mail

"Wow, you've done it again...what a great story. The way you wrote the three main characters makes me feel like they are real people. I love Leana...her kindness, her integrity, her heart. Not to mention the way she loves her child. I like how you emphasized forgiveness and the importance of it. Again, a great series...truly the best fiction books I have ever read."
   Verlene from Utah

"I bought Whence Came a Prince the day it came out. Thank you so much for writing this amazing saga. What lessons we learn with each page. Bless you for bringing history and humanity so real to all of us. The cover for the book was perfect. He is our Jamie. God bless you always and please keep writing."
   Linda from California

"I have read Thorn in My Heart, Fair is the Rose, and Whence Came a Prince and absolutely loved them all! You made the Bible story come alive, and with every trial that Leana endured, I felt Leah's pain. Your character development was amazing, and I cannot believe how emotionally involved I became. I finished reading your last novel in less than a week...I could not wait to get home every day to read the next chapter, which quickly turned into several hundred pages! I eagerly anticipate the next novel, and am overjoyed that you are continuing the legacy of Jamie's family. I love your books!"
   Karin from California

"Och, what a finale indeed! An absolute masterpiece. Even after reading 560 pages, I was not ready for it to end. You have a way of telling a story that seeps into the reader’s soul and stays there. I went back and read the Bible story with new eyes and hopefully, with new understanding. Whence Came a Prince showed such growth in Jamie and Rose. I grew to care for Rose; she was flawed, but who among us is not. She found her compassion and she found God’s love. Jamie found humility. And Leana kept what she always had…God’s wonderful grace."
   Cheri from Illinois

"My eyes are tired but my heart is singing. Your series of three novels were so touching. I cried several times, got mad, felt sorry...all of the emotions! Who wouldn't fall in love with Jamie after seeing his picture! The historical part was so well done. I won't quickly forget these books..."
   Marcia from Michigan

"I read Prince in one week. Thanks for continuing to write such wonderful stories. I always glean a bit of wisdom and insight into God's people through you. You are one author I refuse to wait on the library list for. My heart is full of praise..."
   Marianne from Michigan

"Oh, my. I just finished Whence Came a Prince. How wonderful to be able to put together stories that not only entertain us but force us to do some thinking. Needless to say, I loved all three books, but Prince was my favorite. I was left with that ahhhhhh feeling..."
   Helen from Oklahoma

"I have just finished Whence Came a Prince, and it is fabulous. Really enjoyed it. When I passed Auchengray on the way home from church on Sunday the men were working in the field with the sheep. As I waved to them I thought of Jamie! We heard yesterday that your first book is going around with the Travelling Library and is being read locally. Great work, Liz."
   Helen from Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland

"I have been eagerly anticipating the release of Whence Came a Prince and started calling our local Christian bookstore daily to see if it was in yet. My anticipation was not in vain. This series has kept me spellbound! I usually read about the U.S. during the 1800s, but I found that I have a new love of Scottish history. I only allow myself to read at night, but Prince became an exception. God bless you and the message that you proclaim to others."
   Linda from New York

"Your new book was outstanding and well worth the wait! I loved every word of all three books. I saw parts of myself in each character and sometimes winced, but am very thankful for the revelation. Also, I've never really had any inclination to visit Scotland.... until now. You did an excellent job sharing the culture and beauty of the land. Thank you for listening to the voice of God and writing with such a heart."
   Lisa via email

"Ahhhh...Now I can breathe again! All these characters are very interesting, but my favorite is Leana. What a sweet spirit she has. I love the new and repentant Jamie....wow! And that sweet little Ian. You did a wonderful job with this book, as well as the other two. I can hardly wait for the next story about Davina. Thanks for using your God-given gift to write stories that glorify Him!"
   Vondia from California

"The Prince did finally come through! This was the best of the trio, fast paced, more dialogue, hopeful. Leana was far more patient than I could ever be...the part of her that I could relate to was her steadfastness, creativity, and longing, while yet looking to God for her supply. Lachlan was a heel to the core, someone I could hate thoroughly...see what passions your book aroused? Jamie finally turned into the prince we all long for but seldom find. I loved Neda and Duncan, and hurrah for Alec McKie!"
   Terry from New York

"I can only imagine the depths you personally had to go to create the works of art you have created. Not many authors can make a reader feel as if they are actually witnessing and feeling what they are reading. Your books pulled me in to the story, and at times I found it really difficult to put the novels down. Looking forward to yet another wonderful book. Your books are becoming my Spring read!"

Kim from Oregon

"While anticipating Whence Came a Prince, I tried to figure out how
everything was going to come together in the end. I was truly satisfied
with the turn of events...I never expected it to play out that way. Scotland seems like a wonderful place to visit. Through your books I feel like I've been there. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and look forward to reading Grace in Thine Eyes next spring."
   Jessica from Kansas

"You have done it again! I wasn't sure how you were going to stick to the biblical story, but you did it wonderfully! You managed to make Rose grow up into a lovely young woman. What a journey--I loved it. Looking forward to Grace in Thine Eyes!"
   Mary-Heather from Alabama

"Can't express how this series has moved me--thank you so much for writing it! Each book has been deeply thought provoking and a learning experience as well as just plain enjoyable!"
   Terry from Colorado

"I just finished Whence Came a Prince. I have been immersed in the lives of Jamie, Leana, and Rose. I laughed, cried, and thanked my God for the incredible witness of these fictional characters."
   Toni from Florida

"What a wonderful story and happy conclusion. So much research on
Scotland--I felt I was there. Each book was interesting and hard to put
down. I grieved for Leana in Fair Is the Rose and cried for Rose in Whence Came a Prince. You are truly a gifted writer."
   Yola from Ohio

"I know you have received glowing reviews on Prince so far! Count me in...I loved it! This series of books has to be some of the best I have ever read. I love historical fiction/romance, and the Scottish setting was wonderful."
   Polly from Arkansas

"I just finished Whence Came a Prince. Powerful, tender, and an absolutely gorgeous read! Was it worth the wait? Definitely! I read alot of Christian fiction and this is right at the top! I was sad/happy at the end. Leana, Rose and Jacob, even Lachlan will not soon be forgotten. Are you sure they are not real? Thank you for your hard work and incredible imagination."
   Tammy from California

"I was thrilled to see that Whence Came a Prince was twice as thick as the other two! I must say I have gained so much wisdom...many lessons were learned. I realized that Leana was so loving and forgiving because she had been unloved and desperately wronged. And what a change in Jamie! From arrogance and stubbornness to humility and strength. I have learned that the only way to become like Jesus is to go through hard things, relying on His love and strength alone, as did the characters of your book. Until Grace in Thine Eyes..."
   Sabrina from Tennessee

"I finished reading Whence Came a Prince last night! It was so wonderful...I felt blessed for having taken the journey with them and so proud of Jamie. Leana has always been my favorite, as I am sure she is to most, but I think Jamie was the one that really grew and became the man he was intended to be. I also feel like I've been to Scotland and back. It was a journey of the heart and soul... sweet and touching and heart-rending."
   Vickie from Texas

"The day Whence Came a Prince appeared in the store, I was there to claim my own copy...oh, what a wonderful book. Thank you for a wonderful series that will never make its way to my garage sale box but will instead have a permanent home on my bookshelf."
   Marlys from Minnesota

"I have just finished the most wonderful journey...I have seen, lived, and experienced Scotland through the lives of my new friends, Rose, Leana and Jamie. My heart was truly touched by each of their unique positions in this great story. Through their personalities and adventures, I have laughed, cried, admired, hurt, hoped, and loved with each of them…and have come to realize…again…what a wonderful Lord we serve."
   Jonnelle from Kentucky

"I couldn't put it down! It was wonderful! You are a very good writer. I must say that at the end of Thorn in My Heart and throughout Fair Is the Rose, I didn't really like Rose because of what she was doing. As Whence Came a Prince went on, I found myself liking her once more. It was such a good book and I am looking forward to Grace in Thine Eyes."
   Kristina via e-mail

"I LOVED it! I savored each page. The reunion with the brothers was fantastic, and [the ending] was just perfect. Thanks so much for the joy you brought me and please keep writing!"
   Patti from California

"I loved it, loved it, loved it! Wow, what a conclusion! I read it so fast, just so I could find out what happened. Now I'd like to read it again, and just drink in all the details! I couldn't help crying several times throughout the book. Thank you for writing such excellent fiction. It is definitely a trilogy I'll recommend to friends!"

Erin from Michigan

"Thank you for such an absolutely beautiful story! This trilogy has become my favorite by far. I love the fact that this story also serves as a great lesson on God's everlasting love."

Kirsten via e-mail

"I have to tell you right off that, honestly, I was not drawn to reading your Scottish series, for several reasons:
      (1) I had never read any of your books, so didn't know what kind of
      an author you were.
(2). I'm not usually interested in historical fiction.
      (3) The setting in Scotland didn't interest me, and,
      (4) I didn't have time for the glossary in the back (or so I thought).
I decided to go ahead and give Thorn a try. I absolutely LOVED it, and was thrilled to have had Rose here, so I didn't have to stop turning the pages when I finished Thorn. I was even more thrilled when I secured a copy of Prince! I felt like I had read two more books when I got done with that one! That was a story I'll not soon forget! I couldn't put the book down when I was home, and when I wasn't home, Leana, Rose, and Jamie were on my mind. I couldn't wait to get back to them. Reading these books drove me to my Bible to make me study the Biblical account. I was fascinated with how you wove the story into a later time frame, and used the traditions of the Scottish people. You are truly gifted, and very talented!"

Terry from Kansas

"I read the first two novels and could not wait for the third...this book was the best of all three! Leana was such a beautiful character. I can only pray that I might aspire to show a fraction of the grace of God that she showed in this story."

Danielle from Nebraska

"I LOVED the book, LOVED it, LOVED it, LOVED it. The story was amazing! After reading Fair Is the Rose I did not see how there was any way you could wrap the story up happily. I should have had faith that you knew the direction the book was going. Although this is a story I knew (or rather thought I knew), I was still surprised by every twist and turn. I don't know of any other books which so much attention to detail. It is so refreshing to read a book that is so carefully thought out and written with so much talent. Your books reminded me that even when the future is uncertain, God's plan is still at work."
   Carlie from Washington

"I do not think that I have anticipated a book more than Whence Came a Prince. I wanted the book to go on and on. I wanted to read it slowly, to make it last, but it was so good I had to keep reminding myself to slow down. It was very well paced and so well written. It addressed everything I hoped that it would. Thank you so much for these wonderful books. The first two are well worn copies now and the third will be worn within the year as well."
   Stacey from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

"I finished Prince at 4:30 this morning! I NEED SLEEP! Seriously, this was fantastic. Lachlan got what he deserved, period. Loss of wealth, whiny wife, and sons just like him! I can't wait for 2006..."

"I started Whence Came a Prince one night and finished it the next night. I must confess I was afraid of what was going to happen...I came to understand and love Rose as much as Leana. You weave a very heartfelt and exciting story! I loved it. I look forward to reading much much more from you!"
   Dianna via e-mail

"I could not put it down. Prince is outstanding from beginning to end. I saw the growth and maturity in Jamie. I even enjoyed the changes in Rose. I loved the very last chapters...I cried and rejoiced. You write the most wonderful heartfelt stories."

Annie from Florida

"Your book was superb! It was amazing how you continued to weave the old story into a fascinating and gripping story. I could rave on about your book but suffice to say...you are a real blissin!"
   Janette from Penninghame Parish, Scotland

"We had to write to you and let you know how incredible this series has been. We have had so much fun reading them, not to mention several heart stopping moments, some tears, and an 'edge of your seat' sense of hope and anticipation. They were amazing books, well written, and with so many biblical truths that they were truly a joy to read."
Pearl and Nancy from New York

"I loved, loved, loved Whence Came a Prince. Best of the three, and I loved one and two. The characters were very real and moving. I stand in awe at your ability with the Scottish brogue. You certainly transported me there. I am enthusiastically recommending your novels."
   Dee from Nebraska

"When I finished reading Whence Came a Prince, my face was tear-stained, swollen, and red. I could not put it down even though I knew the story of Jacob and Rachel and Leah. Your plots and writing get better and better. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! You bring glory to God."
   Carol from Kentucky

"I enjoyed the entire series! Reading these books has helped me to think of my role as a woman and Christian in a different light. Leana's grace is so admirable, I think of her often. Book Two had me hanging on the edge of my seat....I teared up more than once in the last book. I was so sad to finish it...I can't wait for a new series!"
   Lindsay from Texas

"Oh, my goodness! Whence Came a Prince is awesome. I can't even imagine the time it must take to put such a book together with all the research. I was Leana's cheerleader all through it! A wonderful book on God's grace."
   Joanne from Washington

"I just did a marathon read of all three books in the series. Once I started the books, I couldn't put them down. Of course I got nothing else done! You're a master at the art! They were WONDERFUL! I had to go to church tonight with red eyes though. The characterization is awesome! What a fabulous saga. They will be classics."
   Colleen from Indiana

"I didn't want Whence Came a Prince to end and I just sat there in awe. I've always loved Leana, but my love for her grew stronger, and my respect for Jamie took a huge positive turn. It isn't just a "story"...it's God's promises fulfilled...it's God' s grace and mercy...it was for ME!"
   Gail from California

"I was very impressed! All the research...good gracious! So many terrific details. I am grateful for how human you made their emotions and the reality of what those actual Bible characters faced. Thank you so much for the pleasurable, thought-provoking read."
   Hallie from South Carolina

"You've done it again! You have made the characters real--warts, sins, and all. None of them are perfect (although Leana is closer than most!), and their responses to situations are, well, life-like. Then Rose, oh Rose! She matured so much. All I want to do is dive back into this last book--to savor this time. And to cry again--because your books do that to me."
   Verna from Texas

"Whence Came a Prince was wonderful. It grabbed me immediately. The characters come out to meet you and wrap you in the story. The plot is WOW-WOW-WOW! Twisting and turning with every chapter. You've got a winner! I absolutely LOVED it...I mean LOVED it. Your best yet!"
   Elizabeth from Kentucky

"How I am revelling in Prince...so hard to put down! A few chapters at a time... then maybe just another couple... and no housework is getting done! I had a quick look at Genesis 31 and couldn't believe how it was all coming about in Prince. It felt uncanny! I especially enjoy your attention to every little detail. It really helps the story come alive. And what a story it is! I feel so much for our dear heroines and hero. It's another treasure."
Helen from the Isle of Skye, Scotland

"I anxiously awaited Whence Came a Prince and wasn't disappointed! I couldn't put it down as I thoroughly enjoyed it. I laughed and I cried and I prayed and I grew! You have been given an amazing talent from our Heavenly Father."
   Linda in Ontario, Canada

"It was wonderful! I couldn't stop at the end of chapters. I was cheering for all of them. Your thorough research is incredible and makes the book even better. When I was reading, the characters were real to me and I was riding along in the wagon with them. I wasn't in Indiana, but in Scotland! You have done a fantastic job! I will be anxiously awaiting your next book."
   Mary Jo from Indiana

"As many times as I may have taught the Genesis story, never have I seen it with such personal, deep, life-changing application to my own walk of faith. The reality of seeing Jamie's life portraying the truths of the Scripture as revealed to us in the life of Jacob has taken root in my heart. Jamie received such grace, such blessings, such an inheritance, and such protection as he walked the path the Lord had ordained for him. Thank you, dear sister, for faithfully following His amazing call."
   Glenna from Arizona

"As with the other two in the series, Whence Came a Prince is a wonderful book. These stories explain forgiveness and grace in such a way that the reader understands not only what it means, but how God can work in our lives in the most difficult of circumstances if we will open our hearts to him. Thanks, as always, for a good, thought-provoking read."
   Janet from Texas

"I stayed up till the wee hours reading. I'm still so full of the story and the enduring love and patience of Leana, the bravery and courage of Jamie, of the spunkiness and growth of Rose, of the brotherly-no-matter-what love of Evan and Jamie, of the wisdom of Neda and Duncan, of what it literally took to live in those times, the customs, and the power of the kirk. Whence Came a Prince is magnificent, just magnificent!"

Elizabeth from Kentucky
