Welcome
to this virtual visit of my writing study, a sacred space where I gather my
research books around me and meet with God . . . and my laptop! You, dear
reader, are here as well, in my heart and in my imagination. Come take a look . .

An
old-fashioned garage becomes
a new-fashioned hideaway.
No more
room for cars . . . writing is afoot!

Once
inside the door, we're greeted by
shelves of novels and the first
of many
maps of old Scotland.

Just a few steps to the landing
and another bookcase appears with various research
items
for Mixed Signals and Bookends.

Looking
up the stairs, we find a treasured
quilt from Paris,
Texas. A cozy bathroom
hides behind the wreathed door.

At
the top of the steps sits a bookshelf full
of British fiction
classics: Austen to Scott to
Buchan to Hardy to MacDonald.

A
wider view shows the table of resources behind my desk, my
old lighted globe,
and a 19th-century washstand.

To
the left of my desk begins my Scottish collection, from
Architecture to Edinburgh to Folklore to Galloway.

And
here are the bookshelves to my right, containing the
rest of my Scottish collection, Gardens to Jacobites to
Travelers to Writers.

The
left half of my desk includes music CDs,
a printer,
dictionaries, a pewter plate, a horned spoon, and the
first page of
my work in progress on the screen.

The right half of my desk features photos
of my
characters, a fragrant candle, a
teacup, a flock of
sheep, an antique paper knife, and a Saltire
flag from Scotland.

Here's
where I curl up to read and mark
manuscript pages . . .
or sometimes take a nap!
The needlepoint pillow of
"Rose"
was a Mother's Day gift. And, yes, that
is "Felicity," an American Girl doll, on the table.

More
research books! These shelves
contain Old Testament commentaries and
every book I've been able to find on
women
of the Bible, as well as some
favorite Scottish photos.

A
peek inside my little bathroom,
with plenty of reading
material,
of course.

At
day's end, Cuddles the cat is left
standing guard,
waiting for her mistress to return in the morning.
It's an honor to count you
among my readers and encouragers.
