"Liz
Curtis Higgs writes a compelling fictional account...[the] first section
of Unveiling Mary Magdalene is a modern-day fictional parallel to
the New Testament story of Mary Magdalene and Jesus. The urban streets
of Chicago provide the backdrop to this story of a life redeemed. Higgs
has done a good job shifting a first-century story into the third
millennium. We especially enjoyed the characters of Mary Margaret, Mary
Stauros and Pastor Jake. Reviewer Anay felt Charles Farris, a supporting
character, was especially genuine. He’s the naysayer, the one who sees
the church taking a wrong turn if people like Mary Margaret are allowed
to come there. Anay says, 'There’s always one of those when you are
involved in ministry.' "Even
before The Da Vinci Code novel hit best seller lists, Mary
Magdalene of the New Testament in the Bible, had become surrounded in
myth/mystery. Ms. Higgs endeavors to unearth the REAL Mary. We find that
Mary is not the one in The Da Vinci Code, nor is she the one of
religious tradition. In fact, she’s not even the one I thought I knew.
Much careful research has gone into this book and Mary truly is unveiled
so we meet her honestly, truly, without fiction, myth, or blinders. The
book is broken into two parts—The Story and The Study. In addition
there is a prologue, epilogue, study guide and notes. 320 pgs • Trade Paper • WaterBrook Press • 2004, 2007
